Are all Suets the same?

Let's let the birds decide!

Pictured here are three different suet cakes.  The EcoTough Feeder, made of recycled plastic from milk jugs, contains Naturally Nut Suet from Wild Birds Unlimited.  The second feeder was home made, but sports a tail pad as does the EcoTough Feeders.  The second feeder holds two suet cakes which are commonly found within hardware stores, large lumber stores and pet food stores.

Three species of woodpeckers (Downy, Hairy and Red-bellied), chickadees and white-breasted nuthatches were commonly seen during this study feeding at this suet location.

All three cakes were introduced at the same time, and at the same feeding station.  You may draw your own conclusions.  Steve Sample WBU

Three suiets

These three cakes were introduced at the same time, in the same location, and on the same pole system.  The one on the left was inserted Wild Birds Unlimited's Naturally Nut Suet, while the other feeder received two cakes commonly found in other hardware and lumber stores.

After eight days, this is the remains of the WBU Naturally Nut suet.
