1)  How much sugar or commercial nectar should I mix with boiling water? The ratio of 1 part sugar (1 cup for example) to 4 parts boiling water (4 cups for example).  Store excess in the refridgerator until neecded.
2)  How often do I change the nectar solution in my feeder? This is really dependent upon the daily temperatures, however, a good rule of thumb is once every three or four days.
3) When can you expect to see hummingbirds in the spring? A few Ruby-throated hummingbirds will start to arrive in Wisconsin as early as the beginning of April, however, most arrive around May 1st.
4)  When may I see the most hummingbirds? The fall migration involves the returning adult parents with the seasonal young, so August and September will potentially see the most hummingbirds.
5)  What can I do to attract hummingbirds? Hummingbirds are attracted to the color red.  Every hummingbird feeders has red as part of its construction.  To enhance further, ask for a hummingbird weather guard at our store for it is especially able to attract hummers.  This weather guard is made of acryllic and is red as red can get!  Hummers are wired to see red and this is it!
6)  How do I keep the ants out of the feeders? Wild Birds Unlimited offer ant traps that are placed between the hanging support and the feeder.  These are filled with water and prevent ants from reaching the feeder itself.  Our best selling ant trap is red in color and attracks the atttention of these magnificant birds.
7)  How long may I see  hummingbirds in the fall? Some hummingbirds may stay around the area if there are flowers in bloom.  Most leave in September and October.
8)  When should I take down my hummingbird feeder? As addressed in #7 above, you should not expect any hummeringbirds to be around after October 15th.
