Most people who are attuned to birds in their backyard have already noticed that bird migration timings seems to be earlier over the years. It's no surprise that the University of Edinburgh looking at hundreds of different species over five continents with data collected for nearly 265 years, reports conclusively that birds are traveling to their breeding grounds earlier over the years in response to global warming. Data shows that for every degree Celsius increased, globally averaged in a year, brings the birds to the breeding grounds one day earlier. Short distance migrants are more apt to arrive earlier than long distance migrants and this may have an affect on nesting and food resources for the latter.
